Shelby raised a brow. “The Prince Morel?”
Swinla giggled. “Yes. He followed me here. He realized what a -- what do you call them again? -- jerk he was being and has profusely apologized. Remember that Vampire who was hitting on us at the club? Morel punched him out when he tried to make a move on me.”
Shelby looked at the man who was so thin a strong wind could have knocked him over. Like Swinla, he was slim in build, but he was cute. It wasn’t hard to see why her friend would be so crazy about him.
The prince held his hand out to her. “Pleased to meet you, Shelby. Swinla has told me so much about you.”
She took the offered hand. “Likewise.”
“I hate to cut this short, but we have to leave soon. I will miss you. Give me an address where I can get in contact with you.”
Shelby gave her the information. “You’d better keep in touch.”
“I will. I promise. I’ll miss you, and if our first child is a girl, we’ll name her Shelby.”
Morel frowned. “But we’ll have several sons first,” he pronounced arrogantly.
Shelby would have taken exception to his comment if she didn’t see the love gleaming in his eyes as he looked at Swinla. It made her happy to see that these two would make it. At least one of them would end up happy.
“Well, where I come from, Shelby can be the name of a boy or a girl,” said Shelby.
“Hmm, that’s definitely something to consider. Thanks for everything. I’ll miss you,” Swinla said, stepping forward, and the two women embraced.
Once she was alone again, Shelby fought hard against the pain. The next time there was a knock on her door, she was sure it was the porter. With a feeling of resignation and a heavy heart, she answered the door.
To her surprise, Tegor, Geho, and Rain stood there.
Tegor smiled. “Good. We’re just in time.”
“To say goodbye?” she asked wearily.
Geho shook his blond head. “No. To come with you. Shelby, as much as we’d miss Laiocean, we’d miss you more. We’d follow you to the ends of the world.”
Her mouth dropped open. It took her several moments before she was able to form words. “You’d come back home with me? But you’ve never lived anywhere else.”
“It doesn’t matter. We belong together and no matter where you want to live we’ll follow.”
The overwhelming emotion of love for them surged through her. She knew how much Laiocean meant to them. She burst into tears and was immediately engulfed in a circle of arms.
“Shh, it wasn’t our intention to make you cry, Shelby,” Tegor said, giving her a kiss on her head.
“These are happy tears. You’ve just passed my final test, but I can’t ask you to give up all you know and love.”
“We won’t be. You’re the person we love the most. Our home is with you. Besides, you gave up your friends and family the first time around. We think it’s only fair that sacrifices are made on our end,” Geho reasoned.
“Well, I’m in the midst of opening up my own store. The three of you can work with me, but…”
“But what?” Rain frowned.
“I would love to have seen Trina’s baby. Maybe we can compromise. Half a year in my hometown and half a year in Laiocean?”
“Whatever you want. Just know that this time around, you’ll never be forsaken,” Tegor whispered, he, Rain, and Geho tightening their arms around her.
Her heart swelled with love for these three men and for the first time in over a year, she was complete.
Shelby hadn’t known what to expect her second time on Chimera, but this was beyond her wildest dreams.
